RUN4DOWN
The R4DT is a challenge event - that is females get a slight head start over males. In 2010 the head start will be 3 minutes and 40 seconds. The first three finishers, regardless of gender, will win modest cash awards and the first 25 will win special prizes in addition to any age-group awards.
During our first two years, proceeds of the R4DT were donated to the Interactive Museum, a children's hands-on science museum located on Center Street in Middletown. Since then, we have been working in conjunction with the City's Business Improvement District to determine how to best invest the money. The Welcome to Middletown banners throughout the BID were purchased with proceeds from the R4DT.
A very special announcement will be forthcoming about the expenditure of proceeds from the 2009 event.
The R4DT was started in 2006 by local business owners Anna and Dave Madden of Something Sweet Dessert Cafe. Motivated by the twin desires to give back to the running community and to showcase the beautiful Downtown Business District, the Run 4 Downtown became a reality after nearly a year's worth of planning.
With its start and finish at Franklin Square, the heart of Middletown, participants and their friends and families have the opportunity to run the race, stay for the post race festivities and then aquaint themselves with the many restaurants and retailers that are Downtown, away from the malls!
